My first column for the Bellringer, the monthly newsletter at my internship congregation (St. Peter Lutheran Church in Dubuque, Iowa). Enjoy!
Beginnings
Over the last few years, my wife Christin and I have experienced many new beginnings. In May, 2012, we both graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. A few short weeks after graduation, we got married in our hometown, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Immediately after our wedding, we moved here to Dubuque so I could begin my studies at Wartburg Seminary.
Since I’ve begun at seminary, Christin’s begun new jobs in Dubuque, at Camp Ewalu, and most recently as the youth director at Lena United Methodist Church in Lena, Illinois.
I’ve begun (and completed) a clinical pastoral education internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. We’ve both begun new traditions as a family, become parts of new communities, and begun more seriously looking at where God is calling us to be in ministry in the future.
As I go through all of these beginnings and transitions, I hold on to the promise in Romans 8:38-39 that no matter what, nothing can separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Now, I’m excited to begin serving in ministry with all of you, the people of God here at St. Peter Lutheran Church. I’m excited to see what God is doing and will continue to do in this place and in this community.
My first few days here have been filled with meeting people and being welcomed into this community, and I’m looking forward to continue getting to know more of you and your stories.
Thank you for your welcome as I begin joining with you in ministry here at St. Peter!
In Christ,
Daniel Flucke, Pastoral Intern
